Beltway Republicans Reaction to Romney’s Dependent on Government Comments

As I predicted last night with the audio release of Mitt Romney referring to Obama’s supporters as dependent on the government, some of the most vociferous opposition has come from Beltway Republicans.

Here are a few samples. The editor of National Review, once a bastion of conservative political thought, Rich Lowry, refers to Romney’s remarks as “thoughtless.” Lowry is ruining the conservative legacy of William Buckley.

And what about our friends over at the voice of Neocons, The weekly Standard, saying? Bill Kristol, a man whose neocon influence has drastically redefined the Republican Party called Romney’s comments “arrogant and stupid.”

Michael Warren goes so far as to proclaim that “Conservatives Agree: Romney’s Wrong.”

If you want to know why the Republican Party is losing elections it’s due to feckless, pseudo-conservatives like Bill Kristol and Rich Lowry.

Podcast Returns This Weekend

The Conservative Beacon Podcast will return this weekend and, rest assured, we will be discussing Dictator Obama’s latest and most telling attack on capitalism and the American Dream.

It’s good to hear that the nation’s top conservative talk-show hosts, Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage, are now stating what I have been telling you for months: Obama hates America, the idea of the American Dream and the America way of life.

He doesn’t simply have policy disagreements with Republicans. He hates America. Period.

There’s Nothing “Mainstream” About The Media

Many conservative commentators, yours truly included, facetiously refer to the major media networks and newspapers–collectively–as the “mainstream media.” But as Rep. Lamar Smith points out in an op-ed in Investors Business Daily, there is in fact nothing mainstream about the major media organizations in this country.

The modern encyclopedia Wikipedia says, “the term ‘mainstream’ media denotes those generally reflective of the prevailing currents of thought, influence or activity.”

But the opinions expressed by the media are neither widespread nor accepted by the majority of Americans. To call today’s national media “mainstream” is inaccurate. They are better described as the “liberal” national media. Regardless, the term “mainstream” should be dropped.

According to a Gallup poll, 55% of Americans have little or no confidence in the national media to report fully, accurately and fairly. Americans are right to be skeptical about the news they receive.

How can something be considered “mainstream” if the majority of people lack confidence in it?

Rep. Smith makes an important point: how can the media be considered “mainstream” when the majority of so-called journalists, broadcasters and reporters hold views on some of the major issues of our time–gun control, immigration reform, War on Terror, etc.–that are contrary to those of the majority of American people?

They are, quite simply, the socialist liberal media. They are nothing but thinly veiled propagandists for the emerging dictatorship and the socialist revolution currently underway in this country.

Jeff Kuhner Joins The Conservative Beacon

I am very excited to announce that Washington Times columnist and conservative talk-show host Jeff Kuhner has kindly agreed to join The Conservative Beacon. He will be appearing on the first Conservative Beacon Podcast of each month.

Most of you are very familiar with his impressive body of work and don’t need an introduction, but for those who do, Jeff is a very popular columnist for The Washington Times and a frequent guest host on The Savage Nation radio broadcast.

Jeff is a warrior for conservatism and the restoration of American Exceptionalism. He possesses the three fundamental, non-negotiable characteristics that I believe conservatives must have in these profoundly important times:

  • Party Independence
  • Belief in Traditional Conservatism
  • Warrior-like Mentality and Approach

Jeff is a fundamental conservative. He has an appreciation of and willingness to show deference to history. He believes in limited government. He is an advocate of personal responsibility, self-reliance and freedom. He is a fervent capitalist, but one who understands the necessary presence of morality and virtue in a capitalistic society. He is a tireless patriot.

What separates Jeff from many conservatives in the media is his independence and approach. Jeff is not a mouthpiece or cheerleader for the Republican Party. Unlike many in the conservative media, Jeff is not afraid to speak unequivocally and candidly. That’s exactly what the conservative movement needs right now; it’s what America needs right now.

I am honored to have Jeff has part of The Conservative Beacon.

White House: Americans Misunderstood Obama’s Warning To The Supreme Court

If you don’t believe that Barack Obama is rapidly approaching dictator status, read these elitist and insulting comments from White House Press Secretary Jay Carney (Mr. Claire Shipman) on Obama’s warning to the Supreme Court not to overturn Obamacare:

Henry: The president is a former constitutional law professor. One of his professors is Laurence Tribe. He now says, in his words, the president “obviously misspoke earlier this week”, quote “he didn’t say what he meant and having said that in order to avoid misleading anyone, he had to clarify it.” I thought yesterday you were saying repeatedly that he did not misspeak. What do you make of the president’s former law professor saying he did?

Carney: The premise of your question suggests that the president of the United States in the comments he made Monday, did not believe in the constitutionality of legislation, which is a preposterous premise and I know you don’t believe that.

Henry: Except this is from Laurence Tribe, who knows a lot more than you and I about constitutional law.

Carney: What I acknowledged yesterday is that speaking on Monday the president was not clearly understood by some people because he is a law professor, he spoke in shorthand.

Did you get that? We’re stupid, at least according to this increasingly dictatorial administration. (By the way, Jay Carney is nothing more than a snobby little pest, in my opinion.)

The truly ignorant one is Obama himself. After all, he is a former so-called constitutional law professor who stated that it would be “unprecedented” for the Supreme Court to declare a law unconstitutional!

Obama knew exactly what he was saying, folks. He didn’t misspeak. Perhaps, in his eyes at least, his warning just wasn’t sufficiently veiled. But make no mistake, this was an attempt to strong-arm the justices into upholding Obamacare.

The Conservative Beacon on The Savage Nation!

As promised during yesterday’s edition of The Conservative Beacon Podcast, here is the audio segment from my appearance on the April 2, 2012 episode of The Savage Nation with Michael Savage.

During the segment, I discuss Savage’s new book, Trickle Down Tyranny, the current state of America, and what we must do restore American Exceptionalism.

Trickle Down Tyranny Is The Blueprint For Defeating Obama

Economies can be rebuilt, armies can be repopulated, but once a nation’s pride is gone it can almost never be restored. The loss of a nation’s honor is something not even centuries can repair.

–Michael Savage, Trickle Down Tyranny: Crushing Obama’s Dream Of The Socialist States Of America

Conservative radio talk-show host and New York Times bestselling author Michael Savage returns to the written word this week with what might turn out to be his most important contribution to America and, in a broader sense, the preservation of traditional Western culture: Trickle Down Tyranny: Crushing Obama’s Dream Of The Socialist States Of America.

Savage returns to the literary world in his sixth non-fiction political work with a sobering, non-pollyannish State of The Union under the emerging dictator Barack Hussein Obama. He puts forth, as only Savage can, an unambiguous and concise blueprint, devoid of bumper-sticker platitudes, that will lead to the defeat of Obama’s attempted socialist takeover of America.

Savage begins Trickle Down Tyranny with an important premise that few will state, including the Republican frontrunner for president, Mitt Romney: Obama hates America and virtually everything for which it has stood for almost 236 years.

Savage writes, “Obama–classic narcissist that he is–is remaking this country in his own image, turning it into something that reflects the belief system he was brainwashed into accepting by the leftist mentors of his youth.” (p. 41)

Under Obama, the notion of American Exceptionalism, at least the Tocqueville-Reagan depiction of a shining beacon of liberty radiating throughout the world, ceases to exist. Sure, America is still exceptional. If by exceptional one is referring to a former global superpower that now resembles a Lesser-Developed Country seemingly headed towards Third World status.

We are playing witness to the emergence of, as Savage would say, a would-be dictator in Obama the likes of which we have not seen since since Obama’s idol, FDR. He is driving us towards a Third-World Banana Republic ruled by a puppet dictator.

In response to the tyrannical actions of Obama which include the appointment of unaccountable czars, destroying economic liberty, ignoring the will of the People, trampling on States’ rights, etc., Savage calls for a new Declaration of Independence. A new declaration is needed, Savage writes, because “Obama fits our founders’ definition of a tyrant.” (p. 31)

Think we’ll ever hear the Republican nominee describe the threat Obama poses to liberty in such unequivocal terms? Of course not! And that is the only reason why an Obama defeat in November remains in doubt. The majority of Americans disapprove of the job Obama has done. How could they not? Many of them only voted for Obama in 2008 simply because they were caught up in the tsunami of celebrity and superficial awe generated by the mainstream media. Most of them had immediate voter’s remorse.

Americans are now pleading for a leader to emerge that will defeat Obama and his Fabian-socialist takeover of America. Savage provides the blueprint for defeating Obama in a single paragraph:

The list of economic failures includes the first debt downgrade in U.S. history, and the highest budget deficits, federal spending, and federal debt as a percentage of GDP since World War II. Under Obama home ownership has declined to its lowest level since the 1960s. The number of Americans paying taxes is the lowest in the modern era, while those dependent on the government for aid is the highest in history.

That is Obama’s record. It’s indefensible. That is Obama’s America. It’s, to use a word the “green” movement loves, unsustainable. (You’re welcome, GOP, for the free campaign theme: “Obama’s America: It’s unsustainable.”)

The Republican nominee should quote that paragraph at every stump speech and appearance during the 2012 campaign. But I’m not so sure there is a leader in the Republican Party with the intestinal fortitude of Michael Savage.

One thing is for sure. We will know the leader when we see him because, according to Savage, he “must love America. The next president must embody unequivocally everything that is good about this country going back to its founding.”

If such a leader emerges and Barack Obama is defeated, Trickle Down Tyranny will not be known simply as another New York Times Bestseller, but instead as the catalyst for restoring America’s honor and pride.

The Washington Times Defending Obama’s Dictatorial Push?

The Washington TimesLoyal readers of The Conservative Beacon know that I have tremendous respect for The Washington Times, regularly citing it in my posts and on the podcast. I have long considered The Times to be one of the few American newspapers operated with journalistic integrity and an editorial page more conservative than the Wall Street Journal.

That’s why I was convinced I was misunderstanding the thesis of this editorial written by the paper’s editors. The editorial is written with the attempt to quell the concern many of us have with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which, in effect, gives the president the power to detain American citizens without providing due process of law as required by the Constitution.

According to The Times’ editors, even if the president were granted such authority, we should rest assured that the Supreme Court would invalidate it as unconstitutional.

All dramatics aside, no matter what the murky NDAA says or means, it cannot strip Americans of their constitutional rights. Chief Justice John Marshall laid out this logical principle in the 1803 case of Marbury v. Madison, which established the standard of judicial review. He wrote that if a law conflicts with a rule or right under the Constitution, “the Constitution is superior to any ordinary act of the Legislature, [therefore] the Constitution, and not such ordinary act, must govern the case to which they both apply.” This is a bedrock principle of American politics. Even if the most expansive reading of the defense authorization is correct and it does represent some kind of White House power grab, it doesn’t matter, because any such provision negating rights held by citizens would be struck down as unconstitutional once it was adjudicated.

That might be in the case. It might not. The point is this: Do we really want to have to rely on the uncertain notion that the Supreme Court would thwart the dictatorial advances of Obama? Do we really want to roll the dice?

Then, and this is the part that astonished me, the editors of The Washington Times did something I would have expected from The Weekly Standard or National Review: They ostensibly defend Barack Obama’s power grab.

Is this Politico or The Washington Times?

President Obama is on an unprecedented power grab — making recess appointments when the Senate is in session, effectively bypassing the American People and the rule of law, as well signing legislation that may or may not give him the authority to detain American citizens without due process.

He is negotiating with the enemies of America, acquiescing to their demands without reciprocity. His policies are dangerous and repugnant to the United States Constitution. He is the closest America has seen to a dictator since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He must be defeated.

That last thing we need right now is a paper that has otherwise been a beacon of excellent journalism and a voice for the conservative movement trivializing — even defending — President Obama’s dictatorial push.
